History and technical features 

K1000 is a 35mm film SLR camera made by Pentax and produced between 1976–97. Its design descends from the original Spotmatic series of screw-mount SLRs introduced in the 1960s.

An affordable camera for the amateur photographer, it was a fully mechanical, manual camera designed without any program modes. It survived much longer than originally intended and became the archetypal "student's camera." The K1000 was equipped with all features required for manual photography: a TTL metering system, wide-ranging shutter speeds from 1/1000 to 1 s, and the ability to use all the available K-mount lenses made by Pentax and licensees such as Ricoh and Cosina. The K1000 omitted some features found on more advanced models, such as depth-of-field preview, self-timer, and separate meter on/off switch.

Despite its great popularity and longevity of the same basic design, Pentax finally ceased production of the K1000 after more than 20 years in 1997.

The K series evolved from the classic Spotmatic SP 1000, in fact the K1000 itself is essentially a Spotmatic with a bayonet rather than M42×1 screw mount.

Zenit ET is a 35mm film SLR camera manufactured by Vileiskiy Zavod Zenit, (Vileiskiy Plant Zenit), near Minsk, former USSR, produced between 1982-1993 with quantity 3.000.000. Зенит = Zenit means Zenith that is the point in the sky that appears directly above the observer in astronomy or may mean the highest point.

Zenit ET belongs to the long running series of Zenit cameras. Small numbers of early Zenits was produced by KMZ, in 1981-82.

Zenit ETs also exist without aperture automation and without a built-in meter. They offered various finish materials and colours like silver, black, or bronze. This camera is an attempt to modernize the Zenit EM. Initially it looked just like an EM with new lettering, with new designs on the dials. Some variants also lack strap lugs.

The cameras produced in Vileiskiy Plant Zenit of MMZ-BelOMO are a complete remake of the earlier Zenit ET. The shape and features remain the same, but more plastic parts are used, including the top cover, bottom plate, and film advance lever on some cameras. BelOMO also supplied the multicoated Helios 44-3 58mm preset lens for use with the ET models lacking aperture automation.

There were 3 types Zenit ET (KMZ) and 6 types with 11 sub-types of the Zenit ET (MMZ-BeLomo).

This is an attempt to modernize the "Zenit-EM". Initially there It looked just like an EM with new lettering, then there was a polycarbonate plastic top and is finished in black with new designs on the dials. The serial number is on the inside of the back door. Zenit ETs also exist without aperture automation. They were supplied with Helios 44-2 lens and are rare.

Kiev-19 (Киев = Kiev) is a 35mm film SLR camera made by Arsenal Factory (=Zavod Arsenal, Завод Арсенал ) in Kiev, Ukraine, former USSR, and produced between 1985-94.

Series of the camera is Kiev-17. There are 4 types and one subtypes of the camera.

The Kiev-19 adds through the lens metering to the Kiev-17. The metering system is automatically turned on by depressing the depth of field preview lever. The exposure is set by adjusting the exposure time and aperture until both the red minus and plus led are lit. The film speed is set on a dial under the rewind crank. The dial is released by pressing a small chrome button next to it. There is no self timer and the flash jack has been moved to the side of the prism housing. On the back of the camera is a frame for the end of the film box (source: http://www.commiecameras.com/).

At least 4 types of Kiev-19 are known to exist in totally: 1) An early type, 2) common type (like mine), 3) an export version with nameplate in Roman characters, 4) totally black body (very uncommon).

The Zorki-4 was the first of the Zorki cameras to be exported in mass to the west and beyond. Usually this camera came with a Industar-50 lens and in some cases with the Jupiter-8 lens. The first Zorki-4's were engraved, but this changed very quickly. Later versions of the 4 had painted on letters. Usually Zorki-4 has the cyrillic markings but it can also be found with roman letters.

he Zorki 4 was possibly the most popular of all Zorki cameras, with 1,715,677 cameras made by the KMZ factory in Krasnogorsk, Russia. The Zorki 4 was also the first of the Zorki cameras to be exported in large numbers to the west. It is a fully manual camera, and does not have a lightmeter. An additional lightmeter may be added by the hot shoe.

When the Zorki 4 rangefinder was introduced in 1956, its contemporaries included the Zorki S, Zorki 2S, FED 2b, Leica M3 (introduced two years before), Leica IIIg, Nikon S2, Canon VT, and Canon L1. The Zorki 4's production run outlasted all of them. When it morphed into the Zorki 4K by 1973, its contemporaries included the FED 4b, Leica M4 and M5, Nikon F2, and Canon F-1 and Canon Canonet QL 17 GIII.

The Zorki 4 is basically a Zorki 3S with a self timer. It retained all of the features and strong points of the 3S. The early bodies have a vulcanite body covering, engraved shutter speeds, and strap lugs. Later bodies have fabric covering and the shutter speeds (1/60 and 1/30 instead of 1/50 and 1/25) are silk-screened. By the mid-1960s, the strap lugs had disappeared.

Variants

The Zorki 4 came in 2 variants the original which uses a thumb wheel to advance to film and cock the shutter. The Zorki 4k included a wind lever for easier operation.

The Spotmatic cameras were introduced by Asahi Optical Company in 1964 and marketed through 1976. The camera was one of the first commercially available 35mm SLRs to include through-the-lens metering. The camera name is derived from the use of spot metering on the original design of the camera. The metering system was changed to average metering prior to its release but the change happened too late to change the marketing materials, so the original name continued to be used. A series of different models were made with minor changes and improvements. All Spotmatics use the M42 lens mount. In the United States, Spotmatic cameras were imported and marketed by Honeywell and bear the name "Honeywell Spotmatic". Cameras manufactured for sale outside the US were badged "Asahi Spotmatic".

The Spotmatic SP

The Spotmatic SP was introduced by Asahi Optical Company in 1964, and was one of the first 35mm SLR cameras with through-the-lens light metering. The camera was entirely mechanical apart from the light meter, which was powered by a 1.35 volt PX400 mercury cell. Mercury batteries are now banned but Zinc-Air batteries can be used instead, or it is possible to carry out a minor modification to the meter circuit to allow the use of 1.55 volt 387S silver-oxide batteries. A small switch on the (photographer's) left side of the lens housing was pushed up to stop down the lens and activate the meter; the exposure controls would then be adjusted to center a needle on the right edge of the viewfinder. The body took lenses with an M42 screw thread, providing a large range of available lenses. The system became the workhorse of many professionals of the period. Three variants of the Spotmatic SP are common: 1) Black and chrome body with Asahi Pentax badge on prism housing, Spotmatic badge on front below shutter release and SP badge on top near the rewide knob. 2) All black body with Asahi Pentax badge on prism housing, Spotmatic badge on front below shutter release and SPbadge on top near the rewind knob. 3) Blank and chrome body with Honeywell Pentax badge on prism housing and Spotmatic badge on front below shutter release (but no correspond SPbadge). The Spotmatic SP did not have a hotshoe.

The SP500 and SP1000
The SP500 and SP1000 are identical to the Spotmatic SP except there is no self timer and the SP500 shutter speed dial shows a max speed of 1/1000. However, like the SP1000 and SP, the SP500 can actually shoot at 1/1000 by turning the shutter speed dial to an unmarked stop after 1/500. Like the SP, the SP500/SP1000 models came in 3 variants, black and chrome Asahi, black Asahi, black and chrome Honeywell.

PX 400 battery

The PX400 is  is a discontinued Mercuric Oxide coin type cell that was commonly used in cameras and is now banned because of toxicity and environmental fears.

The original PX400 mercury cell  produced 1.35V.

There are three possible replacements for this PX400 cell:

the equivalent silver oxide cell, the S400PX.
the equivalent zinc air cell, the WeinCELL MRB400.
a voltage reducing adapter, the H-B adapter and a silver oxide 377 cell
There are no alkaline cells manufactured of this size and shape.

Características

The FX-70 is a automatic exposure 35mm SLR camera from Yashica.

The camera uses interchangeable lenses with the C/Y mount. It has an electronic quartz timed, vertical travelling metal focal-plane shutter with speeds from 11s to 1/1000 with B. Flash sync is at 1/100 a sec.

It features a TTL center-weighted metering system with a aperture-priority automatic exposure mode. It uses a silicon photo diode with a measurement range 1 to 18 EV (ISO 100, with f/1.4 lens). The film speed setting range is at ISO 25 to 1600. Auto exposure lock lever is on the front right of the camera. Exposure compensation is available with a range of + 2 to -2 EV.

The viewfinder contains 15 red flashing LED's on the right side for shutter speed indicators with over and under exposure. It's a eye-level pentaprism 95% field of view and a magnification of 0.86x. The self-timer is electronic quartz based with a delay of 10 seconds. It is activated by rotating a lever below the shutter release button. The LED on the left of the body flashes before the shutter releases and can be cancelled during countdown. It is powered by two LR44/SR44 batteries.

Cosina of Japan was first of all a producer for other brands. There is a list, the Cosina List, containing more than 113 models they produced, with only a little share bearing the Cosina label.

Cosina Company, Ltd. (株式会社コシナ or Kabushiki-gaisha Koshina) is a Japanese camera and lens manufactuer. The company was founded by Mr. B. Kobayashi in 1959 as a lens factory under the name Nikō (or Nikoh).[1] Though the company has produced cameras and lenses under its own name, it is better known for making equipment for resale under other company's brand names. Cosina has manufactured camera bodies for many well-known camera brands, including Canon, Contax, Nikon, Revue, Olympus, Vivitar, and Yashica. Cosina also manufactures the modern Voigtländer Bessa line of cameras and optics, along with the newly revived Zeiss Ikon rangefinder camera and lenses.
Cosina has a long history of manufacturing optical glass and is currently capable of producing glass and plastic aspheric lenses. Their factory maintains a glass furance that is heated to 1300 C, running 24 hours a day. All glass produced by Cosina today is lead-free eco-glass. Their current glass polishing technology is able to achieve sub-micron precision. They also have vacuum-deposition optical coating capabilities that are certified to meet Carl Zeiss lens standards.[1]
In Germany, a lot of Cosina cameras and lenses were marketed by Photo Porst, for many years Germany's biggest photo retailer and mailorder house under their house brand name Porst.
One of Cosina's more interesting camera designs was the E1 Solar, introduced in 1994. The E1, a 35mm film SLR, is powered by rechargeable batteries charged by a small solar panel atop the camera prism housing.
A recent Cosina-branded product was the SW-107, identical to the (silver) Bessa L except for a different top plate, made at the beginning of the Cosina Voigtländer era for areas where Cosina was not authorized to market the Voigtländer trademark. The 107 is hard to find now.
In 2005 Zeiss and Cosina announced a partnership whereby Cosina would manufacture the new Zeiss Ikon RF camera and most of the accompanying M mount lenses.

The Kiev rangefinder cameras were developed after WW II in the Arsenal factory in Kiev (Ukraine). Soviet forces had "relocated" equipment and personnel from the Zeiss Ikon factories in Germany. In Kiev Zeiss Ikon's Contax production line was set up again and quickly started production under the Kiev brand name. Early models are said to have been made from original Zeiss Ikon stock the Soviets had taken with them. There are reports of models with the original Contax nameplate behind the new Kiev shield.

One of the excellent things about this Kiev is its long rangefinder base: 9 cm. This allows for very accurate focusing. For example, when you are focusing for a tightly composed portrait, you see a clear difference when the nose or the eyes are in perfect focus. Combined with the clear depth-of-field scale on the lens, this allows isolation of the subject from the background. Furthermore, the viewfinder and rangefinder are combined in one large bright window so you do not have to look through two windows for focusing and framing. Leica did not combine the two until the Leica M3 in 1954.

Contax Bayonet mount
The bayonet for the lenses is the Contax rangefinder mount.
